Day 13 : A Song A Day, The Christmas Way – Do You Hear What I Hear

Doing this daily Christmas song project has made me learn interesting stories behind the songs I post. Today’s song was written with the hope for peace during the Cuban Missile Crisis. If you notice the lyrics to the song, it shows how the message of peace brought by the birth of Jesus is carried on from the night wind to the shepherd, to the king, to the people everywhere.

Tonight I’m posting the version sung by Carrie Underwood. You may also want to listen to the rendition of Glee project contestants, Alex and Lindsay, that I also enjoy.

Don’t bar your eyes, don’t shut your ears, don’t shut your mind to the peace that is coming.  :)

- cheers to all -

Day 10 : A Song A Day, The Christmas Way

I have this thing, this profound fascination, for anything that transfers me to another realm in my head. Music, songs, movies, stories that breathe fantasy, dreams, magic. Those that put you in a certain spell when they hit you at the right place and time.

That being said, it should be no wonder that the following song is one of my most favorite Christmas carols, especially the rendition I’m posting tonight. It’s Carol of The Bells, composed by a Ukrainian,  Mykola Leontovych. I discovered the existence of this song three years ago, and it was love at first listen. Haha. Of course, I’m posting the version I listened to at that time by The Bird and The Bee, an indie duo from America. The song was included in their 2007 Christmas album.

I also love the rendition by Celtic Woman, which is also magical, that you can check out here.

I hope you enjoy tonight’s song~! :D

The Bird and The Bee – Carol of the Bells

Hark! how the bells
Sweet silver bells
All seem to say,
“Throw cares away.”
Christmas is here
Bringing good cheer
To young and old
Meek and the bold

- cheers to all -

Day 9 : A Song A Day, The Christmas Way

Before today ends (where I live, anyway :D ), I’m posting the ninth song for my Christmas song project. Tonight my post is dedicated to pop Christmas songs : those songs which are not really traditional Christmas carols. Usually these songs talk about being with loved ones/one, and spending a good time during the Christmas season. One example that instantly comes to mind is the infamous “All I Want For Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey.

One song that was just released this year which I like is Wonder Girls’ Best Christmas Ever. The song is very cheerful; I think the vocal and music arrangement was nicely done, bringing the Christmas vibe to the song. :) The song was released as part of A Very Special Christmas-Bringing Joy to the World 25th Anniversary’ album, which sales will go to support the Special Olympics.

Hope you enjoy the song! Let’s get ready for the best Christmas ever to date. :D

Day 8 : A Song A Day, The Christmas Way

The song I’m posting tonight makes me very comforted and content every time I listen to it. It should, because the lyrics are actually conveying the good news of Christ’s birth, told by the angels to shepherds at the time Jesus was born.

My favorite rendition of this song is by Glee casts in their first Christmas album a while back. Their rendition is vocally beautiful and mesmerizing. While looking for other versions of the song, I came upon an interesting one by Annie Lennox. The video is quirky, just as the the song arrangement itself. You may check it out here.

Hope everyone’s having a good weekend, and may the song give comfort in your hearts tonight.

Glee Cast God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen

God rest you merry, gentlemen,
Let nothing you dismay,
For Jesus Christ our Saviour
Was born upon this day,
To save us all from Satan’s power
When we were gone astray:

O tidings of comfort and joy,
comfort and joy,
O tidings of comfort and joy

- cheers to all -
